Fitting Anti-shatter Safety Window Film to a bolted glass glazing system to the Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel
Client: Park Plaza Hotel Group
Location: Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel, London, Albert Embankment, London, UK
Problem with the glazing: The glazing was breaking for no known reason and therefore extremely dangerous.
Brief: A method to reinforce, anchor and install a bolted glass containment system to the existing windows against possible spontaneous glass breakage due to nickle suplhate inclusion in the glazing.
Solution: Using templates,200 micron anti-shatter safety film was pre-cut with holes and slits in to go round the retaining bolts (as these were not being completely removed) and the anti-shatter film installed to the glazing.
The back of the retaining bolts were then removed, the film fitted and then the bolts replaced with the addition of circular double sided self adhesive polyprene washers.
These circular double sided self adhesive polyprene washers have a dual purpose where the front of the washer adheres to the face of the film and the back face adheres to the front of the bolt which is an integral part anchor of the ‘spiders’ which the glass panels were hung from therefore anchoring the glass panel so if the glazing were to break then the safety film will hold the film together and the washers and bolts hold the broken panel in situ.
Once this was complete 50mm reinforcing strips of anti-shatter safety film were fitted over the butt joints and slits as an additional safety measure.
Total sq metres: 3750 internal
Access: specialist access equipment supplied by able install to gain access to top of glazing as access to glazing was via metal grid type gantries
